Job Summary
The Retail Channel Sales Manager leads all commercial activities within the retail channel, with responsibility for driving sales growth, profitability, and execution excellence across modern and traditional trade. The role oversees sales planning, trade marketing effectiveness, and financial performance in line with company and principal objectives.
Working closely with senior management and cross-functional teams, the position manages key retail customers, develops the retail sales team, and ensures high standards of in-store execution, availability, and brand visibility to support sustainable business growth in Montenegro.
This is a senior commercial role with full ownership of the retail channel P&L, requiring a strong balance of strategic thinking, disciplined execution, and hands-on leadership in the field.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Performance (Retail Channel)
- Define and deliver annual and monthly sales, collection, and profitability targets for the retail channel
- Drive sustainable sales growth, gross profit, and market share across modern and traditional retail
- Monitor KPIs and performance vs. plan, initiating corrective actions when needed
Key Account & Commercial Management
- Manage and develop strategic retail key accounts and lead commercial negotiations
- Negotiate and implement cooperation agreements, trade terms, listings, and promotions
- Ensure compliance with company policies, profitability targets, and contractual obligations
Trade Marketing & Retail Execution
- Plan and control trade marketing (TRADEX) budgets and ensure efficient spend
- Ensure high standards of in-store execution, availability, visibility, and brand presentation (MES)
- Oversee execution and effectiveness of retail promotions and activations
Financial Planning & Control
- Manage accruals, cash flow, forecasts, and retail-related financial reporting
- Monitor collections and credit exposure across retail customers
- Approve and control retail-related purchase orders and invoices
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, coach, and develop the retail channel team to achieve high performance
- Coordinate closely with Marketing, Finance, and Logistics to ensure aligned execution
- Conduct regular market visits, reviews, and performance discussions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in sales management within distribution, FMCG, or retail environment
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing retail channels and/or key retail accounts
- Strong understanding of the Montenegrin retail market and customer landscape
- Strong experience in sales planning, negotiations, trade marketing, and P&L management
- Proven expertise in managing trade marketing budgets (TRADEX), accruals, cash flow, and forecasts
- Strong analytical, organizational, and reporting skills
- Proven ability to operate hands-on in a dynamic, execution-driven sales environment
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities
- Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP, and CRM systems
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Driver’s license B
- Residence in Podgorica or surrounding area
